It's All About Him!

ESL Classes

Hajimemashite.  Dozo yoroshiku.  This is Japanese and means, "How do you do?  Nice to meet you."

We'd like to introduce you to the English As a Second Language Ministry at Eastwood Baptist Church.  Most of our students are spouses and children of men working at area Japanese companies.  The men may work in Bowling Green, Franklin, Scottsville, Mammoth Cave or Edmonton.  Most of these families are here for only four to five years before returning to Japan.

Currently there are five English classes offered on Tuesdays.  Amy Brown, Flo Iglehart, Helen Rich, Kim Wakabayashi, and Debbie Dale are the teachers.

In addition to English study, some of our students are involved in Bible study.  Many ladies hear God's word for the first time from Eastwood's ESL teachers.  We also offer a Japanese/English New Testament to the families.
We have many activities other than English and Bible study.  We make crafts, take field trips, assemble shoebox gifts for Operation Christmas Child, and participate in the International Festival.   Some of us have even taken golf lessons together.

Ways to Participate in this Ministry
  • Praying
  • Visiting with our students; they love to talk to Americans
  • Teaching a craft
  • Contributing to the ESL fund.  We buy bilingual New Testaments and offer them to our group and to some other international contacts.  Make the check payable to Eastwood Baptist Church but earmark it for ESL Missions.
